Yesterday evening the Sixers made official what has been assumed for a number of days: the Sixers signed DeAndre Jordan to add to their backup center rotation, releasing Willie Cauley-Stein to make room on the roster.
I have been pretty vocal about my belief that Jordan isn't a useful NBA player at this point of his career. One of the biggest counters I've received is that the Sixers don't have a great option outside of Jordan to fill that role, and I can't really dispute that. Cauley-Stein, Reed and Bassey are all some combination of unplayable, unreliable or inexperienced themselves, and we've seen over these last few games that Paul Millsap doesn't have much left in the tank.
My concern isn't so much that Jordan will be on the roster, it's that Rivers will look to Jordan as his answer to the backup center question, rather than as one of the options at his disposal.
